Bovine Respiratory Disease is a serious issue for cattle producers sparking a good deal of conversation as well as research & development. This infectious and quick spreading disease can lead to symptoms such as pink eye, respiratory issues and even infection, having serious implications on productivity. Tara Rural Supplies and Condamine Seeds and Tyres stock a couple of quality options for protection from and treatment of BRD.

BRD is most prevalent during high stress times such as weaning, transporting, mixing, handling and changes in diet. IBR (Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis) along with MH (Mannheimia Haemolytica) aid in the progress of Bovine Respiratory Disease making vaccination against IBR and MH critical in combating the spread of BRD.

Our friends at Cooper’s Animal Health share a bit about the real costs of IBR. They say that BRD can cause mortality [1], reduced growth performance [1], more days on feed [1], and reduced meat quality [2] and can cause animals who do not face mortality to suffer long term issues associated with production loses and reduced weight gains. 77% of pulls are associated with BRD and 51.5% of feedlot mortalities are caused by BRD[3]. With this threat to productivity, it is worth considering your vaccination options.

Copper’s Bovilis MH+IBR is an effective option for your fight against BRD. This single shot vaccine has proven itself effective. Trials show that pre-vaccination with Bovilis MH+IBR followed by booster doses at feedlot induction provided better protection against BRD when compared to a MH and Live IBR protocol[4].
